MEET MICHAEL

Michael Heitzman is the Artistic Director of New Musical Development at New York City’s historic Lucille Lortel Theatre. His critically acclaimed reimagining of 42nd Street was produced at The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts and Drury Lane Theatre in Chicago, where he was nominated for a Jeff Award for Best Director. Upcoming projects: Father of the Bride at Drury Lane Theatre and Beauty and the Beast in São Paulo, Brazil. Recent directing credits: Frozen (Regional Premiere), The Wizard of Oz, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Seussical the Musical, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (starring David Archuleta) at Tuacahn Center for the Arts. He also directed Beauty and the Beast at The Ordway Center, Tuacahn, Pittsburgh CLO, North Shore Music Theatre, and McCoy/Rigby Entertainment, Newsies, Big River, and Legally Blonde at Broadway Sacramento; Shrek and Disney’s The Little Mermaid at NSMT (IRNE Award nomination, Best Director); VICES (Jeff Award nomination, Best Director).
As a writer, Michael received a Grammy nomination for co-writing “Throw That Girl Around” from the Broadway musical Swing!. For television, he co-wrote the comedy pilot Scott Free, developed with Barbra Streisand’s Barwood Films and Kelsey Grammer’s Grammnet, and purchased by Paramount Pictures. He is also the co-writer of the musicals Genius and Solana. He is a proud member of SDC, Dramatists Guild, BMI, and Writers Guild of America.
