ARTISTIC DIRECTOR STATEMENT
CULTURAL IMMIGRANT INITIATIVE
The Cultural Immigrant Initiative is a vital and visionary effort supported in part by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council. We are deeply grateful to Councilmember Erik Bottcher, whose passionate leadership and unwavering support have been instrumental in bringing this work to life. We also proudly acknowledge the New York State Council on the Arts, with support from the Office of the Governorand the State Legislature, for their continued investment in bold, inclusive, and necessary storytelling.
Thanks to this generous support, the Lucille Lortel Theatre has been able to produce a powerful and growing body of work that uplifts immigrant voices and stories, including:
2020 – Solana and The Courtroom
2021 – Malinche
2022 – Tinsel
2023 – The New School
2024 – Jaime Lozano: Songs by an Immigrant (Unplugged)
2025 – Hart Island
Together, we’re building a legacy of vibrant, relevant music theatre that reflects the heartbeat of our city—one immigrant story at a time.
